JG Ballard

JG Ballard

I made a trip to Waterstones yesterday to do something I've been meaning to do for ages: buy myself a copy of Crash by JG Ballard.

I've not read anything by Ballard before but I'm aware of his influence on so many of my favourite musicians from Gary Numan and John Foxx to Joy Division and The Human League, I could even include Burial in that group if you wanted some modern references, so I thought it was about time I got started seeing as he was - he died in April 2009 - such an inspiration to the people that made a lot of my favourite music.

I've read reviews of Crash - and his other books - saying his writing style is often grueling, occasionally annoying, but well worth sticking with. I tend to lose patience with books I'm not enjoying and put them back on the shelf never to be touched again so I'll remind myself of this when I need to.
