I watched Supersize Me for the first time in ages today and as much as it's a great docu-film highlighting the perils of a McDiet - like we needed telling - it reminded me how much I like Ron English. The film is peppered with shots of his work, focussing, as you'd expect, on Ronald McDonald.
I've always had an affection for twisted corporate imagery in art - I know it's a bit cliche with half the population out stencilling at night but it wasn't always, just ask Andy Warhol - and Ron does it so well, his images are sometimes so garish they're verging on ugly but then that's the point.
Ron's work isn't guerilla street art like Banksy et al, although he does partake in the odd billboard defacing, and it's all the better for it, looking at his canvases he has exceptional skill and pays incredible attention to detail. Just look at his Marilyn Mickey, it's a modern classic and a personal favourite.
