So I'm all recovered and fresh from Secret Garden Party last weekend and just in time to do it all again at Field Day tomorrow. Sheesh, it's a hard life! SGP was great this year, I think it even topped last year's effort. Highlights for me were the evenings spent dancing on the pagoda, the incredible show that was the burning of the giant air ship that was sat in the middle of the great lake and the general good vibes and fun-time spirit that flows through the whole weekend.
This year we swore we'd make a real effort to spend more time listening to music than getting over our hangovers in the tent so we managed to see a whole host of bands. My favourites were Hoodlums, Will & The People and The Skatalites - still going strong! Even Mercury Rev did a good job closing the festival on Sunday night and we managed to catch some of Fenech Soler - a band we once hosted at Alibi many years ago - in the Remix Bubble who are still going from strength to strength even if their electro-clash sound is a bit dated now.
So that's SGP out of the way for another year and up next it's Field Day IV. The line-up this year is incredible, probably their best yet. I can't wait to see James Holden, Moderat, Andy Weatherall, Joker, Dam Funk, Pantha Du Prince, Fake Blood etc. Whether I do or not is another matter but that's all part of the fun. Last year I discovered The XX and have loved them ever since so I wonder who the surprise package will be this year? Perhaps Chapel Club or Factory Floor? We shall see.
There's a SGP video over in the projects section if you want to experience this year's festival through my eyes.
